James Gregory "Jim" Van Etten, 63, of Springfield, passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL. Jim's death was unexpected by his family and he will be greatly missed. Jim was born on November 4, 1955 in Lawrenceville, IL. Jim married Linda Barker in April of 1996 and has lived in Springfield for most of his life. He worked as a security guard for ELA Security, Inc. Jim was very proud of the work he did and spent many years at the Alzina Building in Springfield on 1st and Jefferson Street. He was proud to help protect State of Illinois-CMS Telecom employees. Jim was also a member of Fairview Baptist Church in Springfield.

Jim is survived by his wife, Linda, of Springfield; three step-children, Olivia Fay Stewart, Jollene Kay Barker and Leon Barker; one brother, Michael (Alice) Van Etten and many relatives and friends.

Jim's wishes were to be cremated and his family plans to hold a Celebration of Life when they are able to.
